Playing with Pine Raglan

To accompany our recent Cotton Sweatshirt French Terry drop, we wanted to share all the various ways Team Lyrical is playing with these Spring/Summer colors in making Pine Raglan, a relaxed raglan sweatshirt pattern by Paradise Patterns. We chose this sewing pattern because it has a classic timeless shape, is very beginner friendly, and sews up very quickly (less than two hours!). The Pine Raglan is also a tried-and-true pattern that our team has made so many times – and somehow still want to make more. When it comes to a comfy basic like this sweatshirt, we discovered that you really can’t have too many.

Lyrical's Spring/Summer Cotton Sweatshirt French Terry colors.
1. Classic Blue Raglan

Our most popular color in this latest sweatshirt drop, Cascade is a vibrant light-medium shade of blue. It’s eye-catching yet refreshing, an obvious choice when Kelsey picked her color for her sweatshirt. New to sewing Pine Raglan, Kelsey made her first in the cropped view with an inch shortened in the sleeves. The more playful and stylish cropped view is an excellent choice when making the sweatshirt in bold colors. We love how it adds so much when paired with jeans.

2. Popsicle Pop Ribbing

When Tina was planning her sweatshirt, she knew she wanted to incorporate the candy-inspired colors while still making something versatile she could wear everyday. She chose Butter for a neutral body and picked Persimmon, Hibiscus, Kiwi, and Bubblegum to add ribbing color contrast in the neckline, cuffs, and hem. The result is a playful look that an adult can have a lot of fun wearing. She also added an inch to the body length of the standard view.

3. Candy Color Blocking

Shale sewed a super fun Pine Raglan by color blocking Butter, Bubblegum, Kiwi, and Purple Taffy. She kept the Butter ribbing as the edge color for neckband, hem, and cuffs. The back looks just as good as the front!

Some extra fabric usage info if you want to try this: if you’re making a cropped view in sizes up to H, the length of front and back bodice can be cut from just half a yard of Sweatshirt French Terry. If you’re using the same color for both the left and right sleeves, you can cut both sleeves from 1 yard of fabric for any size.

4. Upcycled Prismatic Patchwork

Shale completely blew us away with this upcycled prismatic patchwork Pine Raglan. At Lyrical, we had kept scrap pieces of our Cotton Sweatshirt Fleece and French Terry colors from over the past two years. These scraps are on average about a quarter yard each, with some less and some more, but no piece was bigger than half a yard. Shale took home these scraps and upcycled them into this delightful concoction!

A bit about the process: She first picked out warm colors that work well together. Then, she patchworked them into a big piece of fabric by cutting them into geometric shapes and sewed them together. Lastly, she cut the Pine Raglan sweatshirt out from the larger fabric and sewed that up. The result is a a truly upcycled unique piece of wearable art.
