Deep into Fall and with Winter around the corner, Tina and Shale decided to whip up some season-appropriate Honeygirl dresses in Lyrical’s latest pointelle colorways and prints. When the Honeygirl Dress pattern was released back in April, we were all buzzing with Summer ideas. Now with fallen foliage and much chiller temperatures around us, it’s refreshing to reimagine this easy T-shirt dress style with Autumn and Holidays in mind. Oh, and one last thing — as you could probably guess, Tina is “sewing for two” these days, so keep that in mind as you peruse the dress fits!
Our newest print design and your favorite pointelle from last week’s pointelle drop, Burgundy Rosebuds is a vintage-inspired mini floral scattered over the richest ecru. The base color has a subtle hint of blush that picks out the pops of burgundy perfectly and renders the fabric quite opaque. We printed our Rosebud on the new Emily pointelle, an openwork fabric design we introduced just this season. Knitted in the US using 100% Organic Cotton, Emily has beautiful variegated openwork stripes interspersed with strands of rosettes and diamonds. It’s super darling, and is even more so paired with our Burgundy Rosebud print.
1. The Vintage Folk Dress
- Honeygirl Dress: Midi Length (between Maxi and Mini)
- Fabric: Burgundy Rosebuds - Emily Organic Cotton Pointelle
- Added Detail: Contrast Thread Lettuce Hem
Trying a new length between the pattern’s Mini and Maxi options, Tina made a midi-length Honeygirl Dress with a scoop neckline and bell sleeves. The final touch is executing a lettuce hem using contrast Burgundy thread on the sleeves and the skirt. After applying a lettuce hem on the pointelle, make sure you steam the fabric up to the hem – this will help retract the fabric and exaggerate the ruffled look.
2. The Red Party Dress
- Honeygirl Dress Mini, Scoop Neck, Long Sleeve
- Fabric: Cherry - Abby Organic Cotton Pointelle
- Added Detail: Exaggerated Sleeve Ruffle
Shale picked the new Cherry Abby Pointelle to make a casual holiday party dress. Sewing a mini length Honeygirl Dress with a scoop neckline, she added exaggerated ruffles to the end of the sleeves for a little extra flare 😉. Of course, there has to be a little red bow at the neckline to top everything off.
3. The Classic Black Maxi
Finally, pointelle in black! If you’ve made a couple Honeygirls by now, chances are that you were probably waiting to make a black Honeygirl Tee and Dress (we were waiting too). Shale chose a crew neck maxi length Honeygirl Dress, a truly easy-to-wear and easy-to-style basic that belongs in everyone’s wardrobe.
4. The Patchwork Black Jumper
- Honeygirl Dress Mini, Crew Neck, Long Sleeve
- Main Fabric: Black - Emily Organic Cotton Pointelle
- Added Detail: Brown Patchwork Sleeves Using Other Pointelle Colors
Playing around with Fall brown tones, Tina made a crew neck Honeygirl Mini Dress in black with patchwork sleeves using Meadow Brown Zoey, Coriander Zoey, and Brown Emily Pointelle. The overall effect reminds us of wearing a black jumper over a long sleeve Tee – a very classic Fall and Winter look. To prevent the sleeves from becoming bulky from the added seams, Tina attached the fabrics together by stitching a zig zag on them layered on top of each other. The wrong side of one will face the right side of the other, and the edge of one of the fabric will be exposed.
5. The Babydoll LBD
Honeygirl Dress in our cotton rib pointelle is luckily one of the few garments that naturally accommodate all the growth and changes that pregnancy brings. The pointelle fabric is stretchy but has low recovery so it doesn’t compress the belly. The dress itself is designed to be a loose-fit with an A-line flare so it naturally has ease below the bust. However, anticipating even more growth between now and her due date, Tina decided to make a babydoll dress based off of the Honeygirl Tee pattern, adding a gathered skirt for extra volume for the growing belly. The hack is really straightforward: 1) Cut a straight hem 6 inches from the center front of the Scoop Neck. 2) Cut a rectangle to create the gathered skirt. 3) Attach the gathered skirt with a medium wide zig zag stitch because it does need to stretch! The gather is about 1.75x, which can be calculated from the cut straight hem. You can choose a skirt length that suits your preference, but something short has that cute babydoll effect (this skirt was 18 inches long for a 5’2 height).

Congratulations Tina! Pregnancy suits you. You are glowing. All my very best wishes :).
Love all the looks, thanks for the inspiration. I am hooked on pointelle and the Honeygirl patterns. Last night I whipped up my perfect nightdress for the fall period using the minidress, but cutting the back on the fold for a slightly more fitted dress which won’t ride up and annoy me during the night. Worked perfectly and was so comfortable to sleep in. Goint#b to make another one tonight.
Thank you Francesca! That’s so sweet and your Honeygirl sleep dress sounds amazing 🤩
