Persimmon Pop in Our Cotton French Terry

A few weeks ago, we released our Summer Cotton French Terry in eight scrumptious colors, all with perfectly matching rib for the ultimate professional finish

French Terry fabrics have a sweatshirt front and a looped back. While the front side of most Terry fabrics look similar, the back loop side can vary: the loops can be loose and large or tight and small. Bigger, looser loops have more plush, drape, and moisture-wicking properties. Smaller, denser loops add weight and therefore tend to be more structured. Summer calls for the first type with its more towel-like feel — who doesn’t want to wear a comfy towel?

Our American-made Cotton French Terry is the ideal Summer variety. At 10 oz/sq yard, it’s substantial enough for shorts and sweatshirts, but not too heavy. It’s squishy, cuddly, and feels so good against your skin. Made of 100% Cotton, it’s unfussy and timeless, exactly how you want your favorite sweatshirt. In this blog, we fill your idea drawer with eight different French Terry looks all made by our talented sewing community.

Persimmon Pop

Our bestselling Persimmon is definitely the color of the moment. Vibrant and bold, it adds a pop of fun and an undeniable cool factor to your outfit. Whether you think it’s a reddish orange or an orangey red, this mouth-watering color is surprisingly perennial. In the Spring to Summer months, the tangy color evokes the joy and brightness of renewed long days and the delicious flavors of ripe fruits. In the Fall, the color blends perfectly with all things harvest and orange. And in the Winter, the subtle red is the perfect pop of festivity for the Holidays.

Sweatshirt Pullovers

Sanna, designer of Paradise Patterns, is working on an upcoming oversized raglan sweatshirt pattern. Of course, we got the first look 😉. With a chunky neckband and vintage raglan sleeves, this is a pattern we all need ASAP. The sweatshirt uses our matching rib for the neckband, cuff, and waist.

Lucky us, we got to preview another designer’s upcoming pattern! Madeline of Madswick is releasing an upcoming collection of four basics, one of which is this classic sweatshirt she made in our Persimmon French Terry. What a timeless silhouette! The sweatshirt uses our matching rib for the neckband, cuff, and waist.

Andrea sewed up Simplicity S9897, a unisex oversized sweatshirt by Norris Danta Ford in size XS. Our matching ribbing works especially well here for the cuffs – because the rib has high stretch, it can easily be attached to the exaggerated opening of the sleeves and made into a neat-looking cuff.

For a more impressive sweatshirt, make a hoodie! The hood and the front pocket really complete the classic look. Shale sewed the Franki Hoodie by Isa in Stitches and sized up two sizes for an even more relaxed look.

Playful Unexpected Ideas

Chunky Vest

With a slightly unconventional idea for French Terry, Tina made a boxy, cropped vest that uses the matching cotton rib to add wide bands to all the edges. This fun vest can be worn by itself on a hot day or layered over a blouse. It’s also a great scrapbuster, consuming only about half a yard of main fabric. We love Persimmon in a small garment, as it adds a more subtle pop of color to the outfit.

Ruched Halter

Always buzzing with creativity, Auri of @stitchedbyauri is working on an upcoming fitted halter pattern and took our fabric for a spin. Using an unconventional fabric for this design which typically would be made in a woven cotton, the final garment is cool and edgy but also looks so comfy and Summery. We love this, Auri!

Sweatshirt Dress

For another unconventional and creative pairing, try using our French Terry with a loose-fitting wovens pattern like Jacquelyn. With its boxy shape, the Wiksten Shift Dress in our sweatshirt fabric is a great comfy option for loungewear. Sweatshirt knits, with their low stretch and greater stability, can often be used as a woven. Other examples include robes and loose-fitting jackets.

Cropped Hoodie with Satin Lining

Our talented Shale always comes into work wearing a cool piece that she “just made last night”. The most recent example: this mustard hoodie with printed satin lining. The super smooth satin not only keeps her hair from being tangled throughout the day but adds a subtle luxe touch that elevates the garment by several notches. We love the feminine pastel print and luster of the satin mixed with the casual silhouette of this hoodie.
